Sunday Morning by the Velvet Underground, heh heh,
What song makes you rock the karaoke mic?
Submitted by Ann.
Normally i don't do karaoke,
Yet if drunk enough and they happened to play Nick Caves "The Mercy Seat", then i'd be there.
Its not exactly a crowd pleaser, but i guess it would depend on the crowd.
Although they may seem one and the same there are a few differences, at least in my mind.
An idiot is someone who is ignorant and chooses to remain that way,
either through apathy, lack of vision, society, organisations, self
fulfilling prophecies or excuses.
They do not seek to address this knowledge gap and instead plug it with
falsehoods, such as belief, quick fixes, acquired neuroses, noun
thinking, buzzwords, or whatever will momentarily fill the void.
The void is necessary, but dangerous, only an idiot fears entry to the
void and stands paralyzed by choice at its edge. On the other hand,
only an idiot claims to have no fear of the void and plunge headlong.
This explanation works just as well for those who claim guru-hood or
enlightenment, wisdom stops here, they are the buck, they are the wall.
A fool is ignorant, but is innocent, the first step on the
journey to "wisdom", the zero trump in the Tarot, naivety is the
fools curse, and left unchecked and without applied rigour and
vigilance the fool quickly becomes the idiot. Such a transformation is
very subtle. Yet surely the fools sense of wonder tempered with a keen
mind can recognise the fleeting nature of meaning and being and
appreciate it for what it is.
Only a fool does not fear the void and pay it the respect it is due. Only a fool enters without knowledge.
And then, there's me
Have an opinion, just don't fall into the hubris of belief.
Opinions and ideas can be changed, belief is rarely changed and usually
gets invested with emotion, inertia and social obligation.
Not to say that opinions and thoughts can't carry the same weight, its
just that these vehicles of meaning are inherently fallible, up for
constant review and are much more easily adaptable.
Belief is a noun and thoughts are verbs, each with its requisite properties.
The power of belief is unwavering, solid, impermeable and "safe", as it predefines values and ways to be.
It gives a line to tread and helps the walker to weather the slings and arrows of nonbeliever's with a shield of faith.
This works for some, and provides necessary guidance to those who seek "a way", and therefore not useless.
This is not say that choosing the way of belief is easy, just look at the atrocities caused in the name of belief
Belief was once thought that got lost along the way and decided to stop changing and hence got left behind.
Once wisdom is afforded the status of a laurel and worn, it loses its ability to remain adaptable, choices made through the same frame of reference will always be viewed that way, right and wrong are points of view, yet with belief they are things and irrefutable, how can someone be so sure of an idea?
If you don't want to think for yourself, someone else will.
The power of thoughts, ideas and opinions are that they are mutable,
and they are are a process of your will interacting with the world
around you.
The power to make mistakes, and learn from them with no reprisal apart
from the consequence of your actions wherever in the timeflow you are
able to perceive the effects.
To understand boundaries, surmountable and insurmountable with your own
"will to power" to be your guide, to know that the limits imposed are
the ones you yourself have chosen, and the ones that are imposed
outside of your control yet, to know that your power to choose has
limitations anyway and to exercise this as often as possible and bend
the rules and limitations imposed by yourself and the outside world is
the main power afforded by "free" will.
Understanding how to leverage noun thinking to your advantage is the benefit of verb thinking, yet this is not a formulae for "do whatever", ultimately the responsibility and repercussions of your actions are yours.
This may come across as an answer or as preaching but it is neither, this is my opinion and is currently working for me and is my current frame of reference towards reality, or "reality tunnel" (Robert Anton Wilson) if you prefer.
